Readeo has unveiled something they called BookChat that uses webcams to allow people to read books via the web in real-time. The idea will not be received well by some folks who will complain that the best part of the reading experience is being together. However, this solution is not positioning itself as a replacement for that precious experience between parents (grandparents or whomever) and child. This is merely trying to be an alternative when being in person to read to a child is not possible for whatever reason. For example, all those traveling parents who miss the bed time ritual and how they would give anything to take part of it when they’re on the road, even if it’s done digitally from long distances.
What do you think? Here’s a screencast of how it works.
