  1. Thank you SO much for your warning! I suspect I’ve already screwed up my oldest – he barely has his yellow belt in karate and he’s pushing 6 already. He might be able to catch up, though, if we skip all that silly bike-riding and swimming this summer.

But it might not be too late for my 4-year-old, thanks to your blog post. It’s a fine public service you’ve done.

  3. You feel how I felt when I started on this book. I’ve not managed to pick it up again and maybe that’s why. The feeling that I’m doomed to failure. Ha.

That said, we can be servants to our children by providing them focus and support, and the best wisdom we can pass on. Honestly, it ends up that what we do is just part of the key to success. A lot rests with the child themselves.

    Cheers. Fun read.

  10. Thanks, Pai. It was a fun article to write. Everyone else’s comments were great, too.

  11. I’m planning on writing a follow-up article on Outliers after I actually finish reading the book. (shhh)

Ok, I’m 27 and just started singing lessons…I would love to become a proficient singer (advanced really) and put out an indie album or do local and regional theatre. I have even considered studying piano to further this goal and improve my practice (it wouldn’t hurt to get good at that too).

My teacher said I should practice at least 30 minutes every day or every other day. How long would it take me to reach my goals? How can I reach them faster?

I know this thread/post is from 2009 but I just found it and any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!
