National GrandParents Day!

Sunday was National GrandParents Day. It was started in 1978 so this little known holiday has been around for over 30 years. Even though we’re called Dad-O-Matic and focus primarily on dad stuff but we all understand and appreciate the priceless contributions that grandparents make to our families. We also know that, God willing, we parents might become grandparents someday in the future. We look forward to being important pieces in our grandchildren’s lives in that idealized future. So, let’s all reach out to our parents and their parents or any grandparent for that matter and tell them how much we appreciate them.

  • I remember when this came out and I was a young boy. My grandfather told me at the time this was a 'Hallmark' holiday. A holiday created just to sell more greeting cards. From that day on I made cards for him for this day instead.

    I miss him greatly. Happy belated Grandparents day Grandpa and Grandma! (Don't worry Grandpa, this didn't cost me anything.)

    I was so happy to read your comments about Grandparents Day. A bunch of parents I am connected with celebrated the holiday by doing something a little different -- We honored the grandparents our children no longer have in their lives. My mom and dad passed away several years ago -- but I still try to provide opportunities for my kids (7 & 9) to try to know them...
