Finding Daddy Time

Oct 28th, 2009 | By chrisbrogan | Category: Video

I’ve been traveling a lot. It’s not easy on my family, but they all know that the goal is good enough to support. Today, I had 20 minutes with my boy before jumping in the car to go to yet another event. Here’s what I did with the time:

If you can’t see the video click here.

Some day soon (less than 2 years), I’ll have my life back to where I can spend a lot more direct time with my kids. Right now, we’re still making time for each other, and staying connected and loving. You can do anything, if you work hard enough at it, and if the entire family aligns around the goals.

  • My boys are 15 & 13 now, they change so fast. Your video reminded me of all the stupid silly things we would do together on the foundation of unconditional love. This is structure that they will build their future self-confidence on. Enjoy!

This would have seriously bummed me out yesterday morning. I don't envy your situation, man.

Nice Chris - I remember when my boys were little - and now my grand children are!

Oh Chris, that is so "beautiful", you made tears come to my eyes as I miss my two boys also when I have to be on the road. He is just absolutely a doll, and his daddy is changing the world. I hope all dads will be inspired by this video. Kudos. You're the real deal, and secure enough to give to others from your heart. I'm excited for those next two years to come!
  • Always appreciate your stuff, Chris...this is poignant for all of us who have traveled...

It's the closest thing beer has to chocolate milk. Boulevard Brewing Company out of Kansas City makes a pretty good one, Bully! Porter. Stouts are a little iffier for me, but I love and adore the Schafly Coffee Stout (out of St. Louis). When I used to live in Springfield, MO, I would order the "black sheep" at Springfield Brew Co and it would either be their Mudhouse Stout or their porter, depending on the season.

  • so sweet ;)
  • Oh wow, Diane just sent me this link. How beautiful. Quality time is priceless. (Nice sweatshirt too!)
  • Beautiful video. I wish I knew how to shoot + edit one. It's on the list...
  • I've been walking this tightrope for years, brother, like so many other hardworking parents I meet every day.

It's enough to know in your own heart that you're trying, even though there'll be times when it doesn't seem to cut it. Kids have a way of feeling that they're the center of the universe, even among their own sibs, so fight the tendency to take it personally when work-life balance tips toward the job occasionally and the kids forget about these moments while they complain that you're "always" working. You'll know better.

But it does fly by, man, so stay tough up there on the tightrope.

I love that you share these "private" personal moments with us. It makes you real and genuine. These are the reasons you reach so many people with your message.
    Thank you.

  • Wow. Great moments to capture. You will really know how great when you look back at it years from now. Watching you and Harold zapped me back in time and place, when I could do that with my kids. Now my oldest son is 21 and 6 foot 1, yet he too once bounced on my knees and pulled on my fingers. Now we hug a lot, but I have to hope he doesn't crush me! Thanks for sharing! (And kudos to the camerawoman!)
  • Thanks for sharing that moment with us. What is it about jumping up and down on dad (or mom in my case) that is so awesome? It can't be explained. But who cares if it makes them so happy right?
  • I'm not even a dad and that was just freaking awesome. Touching vid.
  • Very moving Chris. Thanks for sharing! It was a nice reminder that... you know what... I LOVE being a dad!
  • My eyes started tearing up. As a father of a 3-month old boy, I always look forward to spending time with him. Great video.
  • It's always better to be able to spend *more* time with our kids than *less*, but it's the quality of the time we can afford that's the real key. Plus, as you say, - "staying connected" - which of course has taken on a whole new meaning with the internet, web cams, live feeds, social media, cell phones, etc.

Nice video Chris and great music for the background.

daodomatic is cool - your kid is awesome - I have got one of those, and they grow sooo quickly. I am so privilege that I can spend some extra time with them. Great vid.

    Love it! Great daddy time!
  • Susan
great video, enjoy those children as much as possible, they grow up fast!
  • That was a great video. Stinks you can't spend more time with the kids but I am assuming when your work is done or slows down in the social media arena you will have more time with the family. Thanks for sharing such a personal video.
  • If you can't have quantity, it's best to have quality time.

That's some of your best work right there, Chris.

    Thanks for sharing.
  • Chris

Thank you for sharing the special and private moments of life. The excitement of little kids is priceless. The pulling on the strings of the hood and pulling on the hood is so in the moment and not that dad will be gone. I can so relate with a 4 y/o boy who never cares if Mom spends 24 hrs a day with him but more those short 20 minutes where he is living in the moment and giggling, jumping up and down. The laughter is what makes work worthwhile.
  • So moving - got me all emotional. Keep it up Chris, and keep creating those memories, not only for you, but for them.
  • This movie brought tears to my eyes too Chris. You and your family are blessed. It is so wonderful that when you can be there, you are actually PRESENT with your family.

This made me cry. It's beautiful. By far, my favorite video of Chris Brogan.
